Ducks are Back and an Exotic Visitor at Scout Island

Spring is here and the ducks are back at Scout Island.  The lake is still frozen but there's open water  at the outlet of the lake.  We've been going down to the nature reserve once or twice a week to see what's flown in.

Common Merganser

Lesser Scaup

I have difficulty distinguishing the lesser from the greater scaup, but the greater has a rounded head and the lesser has a more peaked head, as shown in this photo.

Trumpeter Swans

And we spotterd this guy in the red osier dogwoods next to the nature house feeder.  Are we back in Australia?

Peach-faced Lovebird

It was not there the next time we visited, and we heard that the SPCA had rescued it.
