Flooring in Process
This picture makes it look like the floor and the old seventies' feature wall are almost identical. They are not. Flooring is much lighter and makes the wall look a little rough and shabby in comparison.
It makes me feel good that the flooring was grown and manufactured in Canada. Also no petroleum products involved.
If you're wondering, Leo is not doing this project on his own. He has hired a retired teacher we know who knows what he's doing. Leo is assisting.

Ripping out the carpets today
When we tore out the original (orange and avocado-coloured) shag carpet 28 years ago we discovered a beach's worth of sand underneath. They must have made carpet more impermeable since then because it was really not that dirty this time around.

Home renos
We removed the worn carpet from our stairs and replaced it with maple runners:
Now the rest of the house looks pretty shabby in comparison. And we'll have to repaint the entryway.
Next up is replacing the vinyl in the entry and the carpet in the dining and living rooms and hallway with hardwood.
We put the carpet in almost 30 years ago so it's had a pretty good run.
In the weather department, the temperature went from -21 yesterday morning to 0 this morning. Our snow is already melting.

Brrrr
Minus 33 C on our thermometer today and yesterday morning. This might be the coldest weather we've had since the mid-nineties! No Wednesday morning walk for us today! Baking bread instead.

Runner's Brunch
This Sunday the temperature dropped to -22 C, but most of our group of hardy runners and walkers showed up at Glen and Cathy's place for a walk or a run despite the cold.
The runners took to the streets and the walkers took a strenuous hike through the woods.
Afterwards we tucked into a great potluck brunch.
And after that I went home and had a nap.
Most of the walkers in this shot. Photo thanks to Pat Teti.

Amaryllis
The amaryllis I got for my birthday is finally blooming! It has 4 blossoms!
We had a dump of snow last night so it's looking pretty outside again after a week of meltdown. XC skiing tomorrow.
