Butter Wouldn't Melt in my Mouth

Have you wondered why your butter doesn't soften at room temperature anymore?

In recent years when I've made Christmas cookies with butter, sugar and flour they just won't hold together without adding liquid.  Apparently this is because dairy farmers are adding palm oil to their cows' feed.  Check out this CBC article.

I try to avoid products with palm oil (pretty much all processed food) because it leads to the destruction of tropical forests.

But wait!  According to this article,  Giving up Palm Oil might Actually be Bad for the Environment!, palm oil causes less global warming than alternate products!

What's a woke person to do?

Actually that Smithsonian article sounds suspiciously like maybe they're getting donations from the palm oil industry.  And there's still the problem of butter that won't melt on my toast.

I'm switching to organic.

More Primula

They put the Valentines Day flowers on sale so Leo went to the grocery store and came home with 5 more plants.  We can plant them in the garden come spring.  They make a nice display on our coffee table.

Dump of Snow

Walking toward Scout Island

Finally a decent amount of snow fell in the last week.  Leo's been up skiing at Bull Mountain everyday, including helping with school groups.

The creek valley is looking lovely with the fresh snow:

We finally got our cold spell on Monday, we woke upto -21C with cold temperatures expected to last for the rest of the week.

All Done

Maddeningly we lost one of the puzzle pieces!!!

Also all done with winter.

Also all done with social distancing.

Also all done with my broken (?) toe so I can't even go skiing.

About  this time most years we'd be getting ready to head south for our snowbird trip.  Feeling housebound.

In Full Bloom

That's the Birds of North America jigsaw puzzle we were given.  Perfect pandemic pastime. It was fun till we got down to the white spaces between the birds.  Then it was a tough slog to the finish. Just like the pandemic.  Except for the fun part.
