Spring is coming

 Woke up to this yesterday:

But it soon melted and the afternoon was warm and sunny. So we decided to check out the state of the Dairy Fields.

Still muddy and the ATVs and 4X4ers are making a mess.

The pond is still frozen.

Missioner Creek is overflowing its banks.

Today we walked in the Creek valley.

Double Chin Selfie!

It was a glorious morning.  Blackbirds and song sparrows singing, and a red-tailed hawk was patrolling for mice.  Very spring-like.

The forecast is for sunny weather all week with a high of 18 degrees next Thursday!  And thats the day I get my vaccine!

Post Easter

The easter tulips are on their last legs.

A pleasant walk on Scout Island this afternoon.  We saw our first shoveler today, a pied-billed grebe, several swans and the song sparrows were singing.

What's Leo photographing?

Here's its nest:

Muskrat!

More Slides

On Saturday we walked down the creek valley to check out a new slide off Frizzi Road near the sewage lagoons.

It looks like the slide filled in the creek and now a narrow channel has broken through on the other side of the valley.

We also hiked one hour up the Shiny Badger trail on Hwy 20 just before the Sheep Creek Bridge.  Its my first time up the trail but I forgot to take pictures. I was too busy huffing and puffing up the hill.  It was a little muddy, it should be drier in a week or so.

Happy Easter!

I try to make a new Easter egg every year.

This years is based on our potted Easter tulips.

Birds of the Day

Blustery wind in one direction, warm and sunny in the other!

Lots of waterfowl continue to pass through Scout Island on their flight north.

Male and Female Barrows Goldeneye

My favorite duck:  Pintail

A while ago we saw a flock of pigtail flying over in formation.  They looked like a fleet of jet fighters with their pointy tails, incredibly elegant.

Ring-Necked Duck

A few Swans in amongst the Ducks

I saw a bird up in the air flycatching and it turned out to be this guy:

Northern Shrike

We've seen him a few times this winter in the R.C. Cotton site (across the new bridge from Scout Island).
