Leo was asked to do aerial surveys in Smithers in the last week of August so we decided to combine business with a family visit. Unfortunately, the weather was pretty bad, so Leo only got to fly one day. The only other decent day the airline cancelled out, so there wasn't much work accomplished.

But we did get out for a few hikes between the rainshowers. Here's the trail to Twin Falls.
(Note Smithers' version of a drought. They've had no rain until the last 2 weeks)
And Leo posed in front of one of twins
and photographed raindrops on ferns.
Later in the week our friends Rick and Margaret
showed up and we drove out to Driftwood Canyon
to check out the fossil beds and check outy some really big mushrooms.
Later in the week I went huckleberry picking with my mother and sister. Although they've had a bumper crop of Saskatoon berries, the huckleberries were small and not terribly abundant, but they taste delicious.
And we sampled two of Smithers' restaurants: take out from the Northern Fusion Curry House and a sit-down dinner at Trackside Cantina, in the town's historic railway station.
