Scout Island Walk

Checked out the birds at Scout Island today. Saw this tree swallow.

There were two sets of 5 goslings out and about.

What's this wierd creature?

Oh right.

American White Pelican

Fun fact:  For many years the only colony of nesting pelicans in BC was at Stum Lake in the Chilcotin (most of the breeding colonies are on the prairies).  After several disastrous nesting failures on Stum Lake, they have reestablished the colony on nearby Puntzi Lake.  It appears to be doing well.

Although they only nest on those lakes, they feed on a number of lakes in the area, including Williams Lake.

When I was working in the government office in downtown Williams Lake, I used to occasionally look out my window and see a group of up to 5 pelicans flying in formation  above the parking lot.
