We stayed at the Hotel Picamaderos (it means woodpecker) located in the woods just outside of the gates of Altos de Lircay reserve.
There were just the four of us there, us, our guide Lalo and our driver Henry.
Unfortunately, we didn't get to stay in the tree house.
The rooms were named after birds, we were the chucao.
The walls were decorated with replicas of pictographs.
They put on a good breakfast, provided us with a bag lunch and a tasty dinner.
In the evening we drove down the road to another hotel
to check out their hummingbird feeders. The place was landscaped with many hummingbird flowers, both native and horticultural.
Here we saw the green-backed firecrown, the only hummingbird in the area.
Male green-backed firecrown with his crest up
We saw its "firecrown" flash a few times but no photo.
We also saw the Patagonian sierra-finch, not an actual finch but a tanager.
No rufous on the back might be female.
It looks similar to the hooded sierra-finch but has a rufous back and more yellow on the belly.
Total species seen today: 27 Lifers: 13
