Luckily there was a tire repair shop in the industrial park across the highway from our campsite, so we had our tire fixed by 10 am.
We stopped in Casar de Caceres so Janet could buy some of their trademark runny cheese.

We had reserved a bungalow at Camping las Catalinas in Riolobos, an hour drive away. We were pleased to find that our bungalow was more of an apartment on the second floor of a modern building built in the traditional style around a courtyard.
We had lots of time to do a bird tour of the Valley of Ambroz, through a beautiful area of meadows and holm oaks. We spotted a number of spoonbills by a stock watering pond. Then we saw a large flock of bee eaters in the oaks. Eventually we reached the Embalse de Gabriel y Galan. Downstream from the dam was a heronry where 20 to 30 gray herons were nesting.
On our way back we stopped at the Ruins de Caparra. Janet went in to check it out in the pouring rain, while Leo and I sat it out in the car.
