Moresby Island and Gray Bay

Full disclosure:  we actually just arrived in Latvia, but I can't get started on that excellent adventure till I finish off Haida Gwaii.

We took the ferry from Skidegate Landing over to Moresby Island, bought a few groceries in Sandspit, and then drove south to Gray Bay on the northeast side of Moresby Island.

It's a huge crescent shaped beach that goes on for miles.  There's a road that follows the beach, and about ten short access roads leading to the beach with 2 giant Forest Service Rec campsites at the end of each.

There were so few people camping that we each had 2 campsites to ourselves.  Of course we set up our dining table on the beach:

There were several large downed spruce trees cutting off several more old campsites, but we followed the road all the way to the point.

The road was grown over with grass.  You can see that the ground has been dug up by bears, it continued for about a kilometre.  We saw 3 black bears driving into Gray Bay, but none on our hike.

Our trip coincided with the solstice and thus very low tides so we saw some great selfie at low tide.  Sybille spotted this big jellyfish, about 10" diameter:

Also sponges, anemones  and chitins:

But the best were the rock cods, flipping on their backs and snapping their claws at us in defense.

We saw another black bear when we left the next morning:
