Dos Palmas Reserve

Just across from our campground entrance a road leads to Dos Palmas Reserve. Once a private ranch that hosted Hollywood celebrities and farmed fish, it's now set aside to protect the spring, the wildlife who use it and our friends, the endangered pupfish.

Next to the parking lot is a short walk through a small palm grove.  Here we saw a flock of robins and Leo saw 2 coyotes, but to get to the actual ranch you have to walk a mile down a gravel road.  Here there were far more than dos palmas and an amazing amount of water, about 20 ponds

Full of waterfowl, including this ring-necked duck.

It was a seriously blustery day and we got rather exhausted trudging back along the gravel road into the wind in the hot sun.
