It was a long six-hour drive from Dinosaur Lake to our next campground at Summit Lake in Stone Mountain Provincial Park.
We were stopped several times along the Peace River for construction projects either for the Site C dam or due to recent flooding events. At one stop we got a great view of typical Peace landscape.
A billowing barley field. Enjoy it while you can, soon to be flooded by the Site C Dam.
We stopped in Fort Nelson for lunch and gas and just out of town we had a flat tire so we drove back to town to repair it and thus arrived at our campsite 2 hours after everyone else.
The others report that Summit Lake is the warmest lake yet for swimming. Surprising given it's the highest point on the Alaska Highway.
The campsite is located in the sub alpine, and we surrounded by wildflowers - larkspur and monks hood.
Between us we saw 4 bear, 2 deer and a cariboo today.
Bird of the day:
Surf scooters on Summit Lake.
Love this photo of the surf scoters! Last October at Yellow Point Lodge I got a beach cabin cancellation instead of my own usual field cabin, and a flock of them was hanging out right in front of my cabin while I was there.
ReplyDeleteI am very much enjoying following this trip of yours, all places I have never heard of let alone seen.
You should plan a trip, incredible wildlife viewing, we were gobsmacked! See next posts.
