Page, Az, and the Glen Canyon Recreation Area

Our next day was a 350 km travel day to Page, Arizona, and the weather report was not good.

We left early as snow was forecast for the afternoon in the Flagstaff area. (See our blog post from last year's trip.)

We did have some snow but it never really stuck on the road.

Meanwhile Mark and Patty decided to check out the Grand Canyon since Patti bought a lifetime senior's pass and they don't know when they are passing this way again.

Oops

The Grand Canyon was fogged in and they had to drive 3 hours out of their way in 4 inches of snow.

Meanwhile we got set up at Wahweap Campground,

Home of the world's most beautiful bathrooms.

They were beautiful inside as well, with very nice tile work.

Don't get the idea, though, that this was a particularly well-managed campground.  The reception was open only in the morning with everyone arriving in the afternoon and evening.  We came home on the second night to find a couple setting up a tent on our site! The nerve! Turned out we had been double booked.  They would have moved but all the sites were marked as reserved even though most of the sites were empty. They didn't want to move into someone else's site so we made it work and met two nice young people from Minnesota.

We all wound up around the fire pit, along with our other neighbor, a Texan with a Quebecois accent.

Later that afternoon we drove down the road to hike around the Beehive rocks.

The trail across the rocks is marked out small rocks so you don't get lost.

Mark and Leah were there too though I don't seem to have taken any pictures.

Oh there they are.

Lots of cool rocks.

It looks like you can drive right into this cave.

Later in the evening after Mark and Patti arrived we made the long walk down to the boat launch on Lake Powell.

A long walk because the lake level is 142 feet below full (but up 38 feet from last year.)

It's a very long boat ramp.
