Our next campsite was in Kartchner Caverns State Park. We've never camped here before but we have gone on a cave tour. Leo and I are of the opinion that one cave is more or less like the next so we did not take another tour.
We chose this site because it's the nearest state park to Sierra Vista and its various nearby birdy sites.
It's located at the base of the Whetstone Mountains, where they have recently spotted an actual jaguar on wildlife cams. We, of course, did not spot the jaguar during our time there, but it was fun considering the possibility.
The campsite itself was uncomfortably windy. I hung out my hummingbird feeder. It was empty by the time we left but I think it was just the wind jostling it.
Mark, Leo and I hiked the Foothills loop.
We walked down into a wash full of oak trees.
Then we ascended into cactus covered slopes.
At the top of the saddle:
We found some desert flowers blooming.
Desert Anemone
Not sure what this flyer is.
The trail directed us to these mortor holes, once used to grind flour.
