Romero Canyon hike and Casa Grande

One morning Mark, Leo and I hiked the Romero Canyon Trail in Catalina Park.

We didn't go too far as Leo and Mark were still recuperating from Picacho Peak.  We checked out lovely Montero Canyon

and then hiked further up the trail for a great view of the surroundings. We could see Picacho Peak in the distance.

The next day we drove to the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument. You used to be able to see this ruin from miles away on the I10 but now it's obscured by shopping malls and other developments.

Nevertheless it's an impressive structure, the largest remaining ruin from this period.

Later we checked out the Romero Ruins, located in Catalina Park. Not as impressive as Casa Grande

but look at all the saguaros!

Highlight of the hike and bird of the day was this northern cardinal feeding on cholla fruit.
