North Lake

Again we did not do our scheduled 23 km walk from St. Peter's Bay to  New Zealand; instead we shuttled to our next stop in North Beach.

The North Beach Motel is an old fashioned motel but it's  been renovated very nicely.

Our very cute room.

The motel is situated between the North Lake and the Gulf of St. Lawrence and its just a short hop over the dunes to the beach.

And a short walk down the beach to the harbour.

North Lake is the "Tuna Capital of the World" known for its record breaking bluefin tuna.

These squid lures were over a foot long.

When they catch a tuna they bring it into the harbour and weigh it on a giant scale in front of the harbourmaster's office.  We were hoping to see one but the seas were too stormy for the fishing boats to go out.

Tuna tails nailed to a fishing shack door.

Other than the motel there was only one other business in North Lake, the Boathouse Eatery, where we ate every evening.

Fancy owning a restaurant on the shore of PEI?  Val, the hardworking owner, is looking to retire. It can be yours for a cool 1.2 million. That includes a house and a cottage.

It's  a real gathering place for the community.  It filled up every night with locals and visitors.

They pride themselves on their fresh local seafood and they don't deep-fry anything.  I had halibut one night and scallops the next night.

Mmmm scallops!

After dark we spotted two foxes outside.  They were very tame.  This one put on quite a show for us outside our room.
