Ramsay Canyon

Ramsay Canyon Preserve is in one of many scenic canyons in the Sierra Vista area.  There's a nature house with hummingbird feeders and a trail that leads up the canyon and then up into the Miller Peak wilderness (National Forest).

Leo heads up the trail

We hiked up to a rocky outlook with fine views and white-throated swifts zooming around.  They'd be the bird of the Day but we've seen them here before.

There's not just birds up here.

This fellow was catching some sun

We kept hiking I to pine and Douglas fir forest until we reached the raging creek we couldn't cross without taking our shoes and socks off.

So we turned around and headed back.

Leo spotted a butterfly.

This rock squirrel was a very obliging subject.  Looking confident:

Looking pensive:

Looking cute:

Also looking cute, this Townsend's solitaire posed for a photo.

And lastly while we ate our lunch near the nature house, this violet-crowned hummingbird finally showed up at the feeder.

I know you can't see his violet crown here, but then neither did we. The light wasn't right.
